1920

It’s 1920 and in Brianza, a land of peasant tradition close to the city of Milan, the first drawing and cabinetmaking schools are born and the artisan shops dedicated to the production of furniture grow. This is were our story begins: a family story that begins with Andrea Colico and his passion for the chairs he produces in a small space created inside a courtyard in the town of Cabiate.

years’50

After the hard post-war years, it’s Antonio, Andrea’s son, who feels the first wind of change. Aware of the growing attention of the bourgeois public to the value of the home and the goods related, to their refined taste as well as to the urbanization process underway, he chooses, for himself and his family, to move to Varedo, close to what it is becoming one of the most important cities in Europe: Milan.

years’60

These are the golden years of furniture. Antonio Colico company is born, a production activity of chairs strongly rooted in the territory in which it operates and to which it draws for taste, tradition and towards which it has always had a strong sense of belonging. But this is not enough for Antonio; Antonio is a careful entrepreneur and takes an opportunity linked to the growth of a new district in the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia and begins to distinguish between semi-finished products, supplied in the province of Udine, and processing that continues in his laboratory in Brianza.

years’70

Antonio Colico company continues to grow and structure itself. These are flourishing years, years of economic development in which work is seen as a social value. And it is at this historical moment that Antonio make the decision to open a production site in Friuli, an increasingly specialized region in woodworking for the construction of chairs. The head and heart of the company, however, remains in Brianza where Antonio’s wife and her most faithful collaborators continue to work on the coatings and finishes of the products, giving the quality and attention to detail for which the company is recognized and where a commercial structure begin to take shape, also thanks to the participation, in 1970, in its first International Furniture Fair, an event to which the Colico family will dedicate itself every April for the next 50 years.

years’80

With the 1980s, the third important phase of the entrepreneurial history of the Colico family begins. Walter, Antonio and Maria’s eldest son, works alongside his father in the management of the company.
Thanks to the design studies conducted abroad, Walter opens the doors of the family business to the design and international markets to which he is inspired and to which he looks. A new company started in 1982: it is Colico Design.

years’90

Ten years have passed since the start of the new company and Walter is joined by his young brother: Diego. Together with his father, Antonio, and an increasingly close-knit and consolidated family of collaborators, the company grows and establishes itself on international markets thanks to participation in sector fairs. These are the years of experimentation, of a first hesitant approach to the use of colors and the attention to the lines strongly desired by Walter, which increasingly become the creative element of the company thanks to its flair for beautiful, eccentric and experimental things. with which he loves to surround himself.

years 2000

The change of century sees Colico Design growing thanks to its Italian and foreign distribution network. It’s time to focus everything on the image, it’s time to work on a representative collection. And so Walter opens collaborative relationships with young architects and prospective designers. The success is immediate: new important commercial relationships are opened and Colico products begin to be chosen by the most important television programs of entertainment, sports, information and customs.

years2010

In 2010 an intuition. Always convinced that excellence derives from the union between tradition and innovation, Walter and his childhood friend, now known architect Kicco Bestetti, creates a now iconic product: Milano2015 chair. In that product he puts himself: the love for his city and the happiness for the title of guest of Expo 2015, the passion for color and for new technologies, the classic and memory lines and the emotion of the forms with which he has lived in close contact since he was a child. It is an immediate success that continues to this day and has seen Milano2015 at the center of several projects, including Design for Charity held in the splendid setting of the Triennale building in April 2011. and attended by artists like Karim Rashid, Piero Lissoni, Elio Fiorucci, Patricia Urquiola.

2015

Walter’s path of discovery and introspection brings us to 2015, the year in which the path arrives at a return to origins through a new collection where wood and upholstery returns to be protagonists and which culminates in the creation of a new logo . A logo that focuses on the family, roots and blood ties, but also on the people who have made their contribution in creating the history and tradition of this company that is about to cross the century of history. But also the attention to the new, the desire to offer yourself with a different product, the desire to get involved and question: a design out of the ordinary.
